I am a German speech therapist, living in Canada. I moved to Atlantic Canada because of my partner but also because I could always picture myself living abroad and making new experiences in life.
In 2021, I completed my training-integrated Bachelor's degree at the SRH University of Applied Sciences for Health on the Heidelberg campus-and have been a passionate speech therapist ever since. I work with people of all ages and enjoy my varied and exciting job every day!
I have primarily worked in speech therapy practices and in hospitals, mainly on the stroke unit and in early rehabilitation, in Germany and in Canada. Throughout my time working in different settings in Canada, having worked as part of an early supported stroke discharge team and as a research assistant, working closely together with many speech therapists and an interdisciplinary team, I have gained a lot of knowledge and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders. For the most part, I've treated Dysphagia, Aphasia, Apraxia of speech and Dysarthria. I also worked in the treatment of specific language impairments (SLI) and developmental speech and language disorders (DLD).
Teletherapy at Tinyeye allows me to pursue my passion and provide you, or your child, with the speech therapy treatment you need, no matter where we are! Having started to learn and speak English when I was 4-year-old and now having lived and worked in Canada, I am confident to give therapy not only in German but also in English.
I am happy about the opportunity to offer speech therapy with more flexibility and make it reachable for all online!
I look forward to meeting you or your child!
Children experiencing difficulties in language and/or speech can cause many obstacles at school and in everyday life. Therefore, it is nice as a healthcare professional to support children in this regard. I have been able to help children mainly with their language and speech skills and abnormal oral habits. It is great to see the growth children make in their development and how much this can mean for parents.
In practice, I find that multilingualism in speech therapy remains a grey area. This inspired me to take the minor in multilingualism during my studies. I myself was raised multilingual and speak Berber and Arabic (Moroccan dialect) in addition to Dutch and English.
Communication binds people together and makes this an indispensable part of society. This makes speech therapy treatments very necessary for many children. Digital speech therapy forms the bridge for accessible therapy for every child and also gives a chance to the children who are on the waiting list for a long time.
I love children. That's why I really enjoy working with this target group. But I also have a good click with adults. A cheerful character with a large dose of patience and great empathy are qualities I am known for.
I enjoy doing speech therapy and it was a conscious choice for me when I started training. I have been a speech therapist since 2011 and in 2016 I became a stutter therapist. Because I love little ones so much, I am now immersing myself in preverbal speech therapy.
I have taught, I have trained, I have led the Suriname Speech Therapy Association, I have done international projects and I have treated individually
and in groups.
I enjoy initiating new developments and I like new challenges. Online therapy offers many opportunities and at TinyEYE I get the chance to explore those possibilities. I like to set the bar high and go for the best results. For you too!
I am Spanish and I am a graduate in Speech Therapy.
From an early age I was attracted to foreign languages and decided to leave Spain and live in England where I stayed for more than 5 years. In 2008 I moved to Brittany in France with my husband and this is where I currently live now.
Moving to two new countries allowed me to learn English and French fluently and today I have two children, aged 9 and 7, who are trilingual. We use all three languages every day. The children speak English with their father, Spanish with me and French at school and with their neighbours and friends.
I am very happy with my personal journey, because it has given me a very good insight into the challenges that patients encounter whilst communicating.
I love working with both children and adults. The satisfaction of successfully supporting a client to resolve their difficulties in communicating by speech or written word; and seeing the quality of their lives improve after such a life changing event as a stroke or neurological disease is what motivates me.
We all have the right to speech therapy support that will help us to continue living our lives happily and fully with our friends , family and local communities.
A good speech therapist is patient and has the ability to listen to a person in their entirety. In other words, he is able to understand and study all linguistic and communicative aspects of his language as a whole. For example, body language is closely related to breathing, but also to a person's voice and speech. Some disorders, such as stuttering or voice disorders, sometimes find their causes in psychological disorders.
The speech therapist must pay attention to all these points in order to make a correct diagnosis. In addition, the ability to empathize with the patient is very important in order to find together the best therapy adapted to the patient's needs.
My professional and personal experience has allowed me to develop and improve all these human qualities which are very important for my work as a speech therapist.
The profession of speech therapy allows us to work with many different people, of different ages, who have communication problems due to multiple disorders and pathologies, whether organic (cleft lip or palate) or functional or neurological.
I have worked with French speech therapists in:
- The hospital environment: (diagnosis and treatment of myo-functional disorders or swallowing disorders, laryngectomies, aphasic disorders and disorders of voice, speech and language in neurodegenerative diseases);
- Re-educational centres (treating autism and intellectual disability)
- Private practice (treating oral and written language disorders).
I am highly motivated because I now have the opportunity to work professionally in Spanish and French with TinyEYE and to be in touch with more people and make speech therapy online reachable to all.
