Young people may experience various challenges in communication and language ability. Our therapies are specifically designed to captivate and engage young clients, through activities and materials appropriate to their age and interests. We focus on the following objectives:
For adults, we focus on restoring or improving communication skills that may have been affected by various causes, including neurological disorders, voice problems or hearing impairments. Our approaches include:
In Amsterdam, the spectrum of speech disorders covers a wide range of challenges related to the production of speech sounds. Within this spectrum are articulation disorders, which characterise problems with precisely forming sounds. Likewise, this includes phonological disorders, which focus on difficulties in understanding and applying the sound patterns essential for language, and apraxia, a condition that affects motor planning for speech production. At TinyEYE speech therapy in Amsterdam, we are committed to treating these and other speech-related disorders.
Language problems encompass a wide range of difficulties with both using and understanding language. Individuals with expressive language problems find it difficult to express their ideas, while receptive language problems indicate obstacles in understanding and interpreting the communication of others. A specific category within these problems is aphasia, often caused by damage to the brain, resulting in extensive difficulties in processing language.
Voice disorders include problems that affect the quality of the voice, such as hoarseness, which leads to a raspy or hoarse voice sound. Thickenings on the vocal cords, known as nodules, which can cause discomfort, also affect how the voice sounds. Dysphonia is the umbrella term for conditions that affect the vocal pitch, strength or sound of the voice.
Swallowing disorders, known as dysphagia, include a range of difficulties with the swallowing mechanism. These problems can range from difficulty swallowing to complications with chewing. Individuals struggling with swallowing disorders are at greater risk of choking or aspiration, the accidental inhalation of food or liquid into the respiratory tract. Adaptation of eating and swallowing techniques is often necessary to make consumption of food and beverages safer and more comfortable.
